Ganesh Haloi
Untitled Abstract with Dots |
|
Born 1936, Jamalpur, Mymansingh (now Bangladesh).
Haloi's work is characterized by the transition between relating to an external environment and relating to and internal landscape. He muses, "isolation is the most important factor in these paintings. You are alone with nature, and then you become part of it - you participate in it." In keeping with this notion, his early work features mostly landscapes and his later works are abstract depictions of the artist's psyche - his self-observant and philosophic temperament. As a young child, Haloi experienced firsthand the devastation and violence of partition, and this has greatly shaped his perspective.
Ganesh Haloi lives and works in Mumbai, India.
