The bearer of the priceless artistic heritage of pioneering Odissi master Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra, Sujata Mohapatra will present gems from the master’s works as well as new works created by her and her husband. Sujata’s immaculate sculptural contours and lyrical movements, is contrasted by the vibrancy of Prashant Shah’s Kathak solo.

ERASING BORDERS EVENING CONCERT II

Rukmini Vijayakumar (Bharatanatyam/Modern)

The evening explores the works of two dancers who are trained in both Bharatanatyam and Modern dance. Energetic, innovative and multi-talented Rukmini Vijayakumar will present two works – one from her Bharatanatyam repertoire and the other a modern work. Thresh Dance’s Savitri: Journey in Eternal Night is a duet between Preeti Vasudevan, a solo dancer and Kyra Gaunt, a vocalist representing the body and voice of Savitri in a dialogue with the formless figure of Death. This work is based on a canto from the epic poem Savitri, written by Indian mystic and freedom fighter Sri Aurobindo.

The NYC premiere of internationally renowned Bharata Natyam dancer, Priyadarshini Govind’s ‘PraNayam: Obeisances to God’ is accompanied by a live musical orchestra from India. Trinayan Dance Theater presents its own work ‘Prati Dhwani: Sacred Resonance.’
