Priyadarshini Govind is an incomparable world renowned Bharata Natyam dancer who specializes in the delicate art of abhinaya- the art of expression. After initial grooming under Smt. Usha, Priyadarsini specialized in abhinaya under 'Padma Bhushan' Smt. Kalanidhi Narayanan from the age of nine. Priyadarsini received advanced training in Bharatanatyam under Guru Swamimalai K. Rajaratnam, exponent of the Vazhvoor School from the age of ten. Ms. Govind has performed at numerous prestigious dance venues and major dance festivals in India and abroad. Tall and slim, this Chennai based dancer is a delight to watch, the strong lines of her dance brought alive by a quality of abhinaya, nothing short of being in a class of its own. Leena Mohanty has been awarded the coveted and prestigious Mahari award and was the recipient of the first Ustad Bismillah Khan Youth Award in 2006. Through her commitment to Odissi, Leena has proven to be a versatile dancer with a vision. She is the co-founder and artistic director of Bansi Bilas, an institution devoted to training young and upcoming dancers of Guru Deba Prasad Das’ School of Odissi and provides a creative outlet for dancers, musicians and art lovers in Bhubaneswar. Ms. Mohanty is a critically acclaimed and celebrated dancer with a strong and impeccable command of technique. Smt. Rajika Puri an exponent of Bharatanatyam and Odissi, has performed in solo recital throughout the US, Latin America, Europe and India. She currently focuses on works which expand the scope of traditional performing arts through choreography to different kinds of music – flamenco, American song, western classical - and develops danced stories in which she herself sings, chants and narrates texts - in English and in Sanskrit – to accompany her movements. Since she was cast by Julie Taymor in The Transposed Heads (Lincoln Center Theater), Rajika is also active on the western stage and has participated in several of IAAC’s play-reading festivals. Rukmini Vijayakumar has been dancing for over 20 years. She graduated with a BFA in Modern dance and Ballet from the Boston Conservatory in 2008. From the age of 8, she pursued an intense study of Bharatanatyam under Guru Narmada, Guru Padmini Rao and Guru Sundari Santhanam and continues to extensively perform as a Bharatanatyam soloist. She has studied acting at the New York Film Academy and the Ivana Chubbuck Studios in Los Angeles and under Director, Prakash Belawadi, Bangalore. She has her own dance company, Raadha Kalpa, where she teaches and choreographs new work. She is a certified mat power pilates instructor and is currently pursuing her fitness training certification from UCLA. She is also doing Graduate Program in Bharatanatyam under Dr. Padma Subrahmanyam’s course with the Shastra University. |
