Erasing Borders: DanceFEST INDIA- 2012

New York, NY – March 2012; In a dance celebration of the vibrancy of spring, the Indo-American Arts Council (IAAC) and Trinayan Dance Theater collaborate to present a seven-day festival showcasing the exquisite dance styles of India and featuring internationally renowned performers. Presented at various venues in Manhattan and Brooklyn, the festival commences on April 9th with a concert starring Prashant Shah one of the leading male Kathak dancers of his generation today and Sujata Mohapatra, a leading female Odissi artists of India. The April 10th performance juxtaposes two innovative choreographer-dancers with contrasting sensibilities in one evening - Rukmini Vijayakumar and Preeti Vasudevan (Thres Dance), both trained in Bharatanatyam and Modern dance. Festival highlights include additional dance performances, dance workshops and panel discussions. On April, 14th a concert at the Asia Society brings the NYC premiere of “PraNayam: Obeisances to God’ with internationally renowned dancer, Priyadarshini Govind accompanied by a live musical orchestra from India; and Trinayan Dance Theater’s “Prati Dhwani: Sacred Resonanc”’ in traditional Odissi repertory. The festival concludes on April 15th with a delightful family friendly performance of “Stories of Krishna - The Playful Blue God” at the Brooklyn Children’s Museum. Erasing Borders: Festival of Indian Dance is presented by the Indo-American Arts Council (IAAC). The festival is known for bringing New York City audiences a rich range of Indian dance performances produced in India and the Diaspora, including traditional and classical to modern and Indian. Now in its fifth year, Erasing Borders: Festival of Indian Dance is proud to collaborate with the Trinayan Dance Theater’s inaugural DanceFEST INDIA to bring audiences the stellar Indian dance talents of today using dance to interpret ancient lineages and traditions. Erasing Borders: Festival of Indian Dance is partly funded by New York State Council for the Arts and Department of Cultural Affairs, New York City. Trinayan Dance Theater
Trinayan or the third eye- is the nexus of divine energy of each human being. Founded as a Dance Theater officially in 2008, the company- a registered 501(c) not-for-profit organization- has been presenting performances, workshops and dance classes in the ancient style of Odissi dance as a collective for over 10 years in New York City.
