and Off Center: The Art of Modern India Curated by Sundaram Tagore
Off Center: The Art of Modern India traces the history of Indian art over the past one-hundred-fifty years, as it has shifted from the British academic tradition to independent and often cutting-edge esthetics. The exhibition includes works by Manjit Bawa, Jayashree Chakravarty, F.N. Souza, and Abanindranath Tagore. It has been compiled from private east coast collections and will appear exclusively in The Rye Arts Center's intimate gallery, making this unique event a once-in-a-lifetime experience. The opening reception is free and open to the public, Sunday, January 12C 4-6 pm. Gallery hours are Monday- Friday 10-5, Saturday 1-4 or by appointment. Admission is free. The exhibit will anchor The Colors of India festival, co-sponsored by The Rye Arts Center and the Indo-American Arts Council and consisting of a series of programs that celebrate contemporary arts in India.
